Derby County missed out on the opportunity to gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last season, which leaves them now in a predicament.

Likely having to sell some of their big name players, like last season’s Championship top goal scorer Matej Vydra, it frees up space in the squad for new arrivals.

New manager Frank Lampard isn’t short of connections in the footballing world, and many are wondering if he will use these to his advantage, much like that of Steven Gerrard in the blue half of Glasgow.

The former Chelsea legend’s tenure at Pride Park kicked off with a victory for his side, in a 4-1 win against League Two opponents Notts County during their preseason friendly.

Perhaps the start of a successful reign and a prosperous managerial career – either way, Derby County certainly won’t be hesitating with additions to their current squad during the end of the transfer window.

Here is a look at the transfer agreements that Derby County need to secure before the end of the summer.

With a bid already having been submitted for the 27-year-old, this signing is one that looks like could be complete in the near future.

Jozefzoon, who can play as a winger or in a central role, only joined Brentford in 2017, but would be a strong addition to Frank Lampard’s squad.

During what was arguably the best season of his career, the Dutchman played 43 games and scored eight goals for Brentford.

Already having been linked with a loan move for Harry Wilson, Frank Lampard looks set to beat former England central midfield partner Steven Gerrard to the signing of the Welsh youngster.

Wilson is undoubtedly talented and has bags of potential, but is unlikely to feature much for the Liverpool first team this coming season, so a loan move to Pride Park is likely to excite both parties.

The 21-year-old spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Hull City, where he impressed, but Derby should be looking to secure this deal before other teams start stepping up their interest.

Derby County will certainly be looking to sure up their defence, and Ryan Shotton could provide that experience at the back they are looking for.

The arrival of Aden Flint at Middlesbrough will surely see Shotton spend large parts of the season on the bench, while Frank Lampard could offer regular first team football.

The 29-year-old has played over 30 times for Derby County already in his career, across his loan spell in 2014 and his subsequent permanent move to Pride Park in 2015.

The future of Matej Vydra is one that not even Derby County know of at this moment in time, but the sale quicker they offload their star talisman, the better.

The sale is bound to make the Rams a hefty influx of income, which will open up the transfer market for Frank Lampard.

While they won’t be spending all of said cash, it certainly will free up space in the squad and money in the bank, for their new boss to start building his new look team.
