Walsall need to finish the season strongly in order to ensure they don't get relegated to League Two.

The Saddlers are just two points outside the play-offs with four games remaining. Their schedule is tough, but they do have a winnable game remaining against strugglers Northampton Town.

They won't want to repeat this situation next season, so new personnel are needed to stop this from happening. Although Walsall will be limited to free agents and loanees as well as picking up a bargain from the relegated teams and lower division teams due to their limited financial situation.

Here are three players they should be looking at for next season...

Poole is currently on loan at Northampton from Manchester United. The Cobblers are four points from safety with just three games remaining, so it's highly likely that they will go down.

Therefore, Poole is unlikely to return, but he will probably be on loan again, so Walsall should try and bring him in even if it's just for half the season. He would be a cheap way to boost their defence and has plenty of experience in this league with 22 appearances this season as well as possessing plenty of quality.

Delaney plays at Rochdale, who are likely to go down, so Walsall could try and entice him in by providing a chance to stay in the league.

He is able to play as a left-back or a centre-back and at 21-years-old has a promising career ahead of him. Bringing him in would add depth to multiple areas due to his versatility as well as giving them a long-term prospect.

Rochdale are unlikely to ask for a high price if they do get relegated, so he would be worth the risk and has the potential to strengthen a key area.

Grimes is another loanee that Walsall could poach from Northampton. Swansea are his parent club, but he is unlikely to make the first-team anytime soon, so Walsall could offer the chance to continue his development in League One.

He has been a consistent presence for Northampton this season with 40 league appearances, so he is clearly suited to this level even if he has been in a struggling side. Therefore, he would be another player they could bring in for a key area with little effect on the budget.
