With three games left to play in the League One season, Gillingham are very nearly safe from relegation.

The Gills currently sit six points clear of the drop zone in 16th place with four teams between them and the bottom four.

And while Gillingham fans will breathe a sigh of relief when they are mathematically safe from the drop, it has still been a bitterly disappointing season for all involved in the club.

At the start of the season, the fans would have been hoping that the club could kick on towards the play-off places at least but these hopes were soon dashed and replaced by the possibility of sliding towards a relegation battle.

If Gillingham want to improve for next season, they need to be shrewd in the transfer window this summer and bring in some top players.

Business needs to be done early and here are three players they should enquire about before the window opens.

With Blackburn looking likely to win automatic promotion back to the Championship, Gillingham should be readying a bid for Dominic Samuel.

Samuel was fantastic on loan at Gillingham previously and scored against his former loan side earlier in the season.

The 24-year-old is down the pecking order at Blackburn and could fancy a return to Kent, where he would be deployed in a starring role up top.

Reise Allassani is currently playing for Dulwich Hamlet, where he has been since he was released by Crystal Palace following a long-term injury.

But there is no way that he should be playing down that low and he has sixteen league goals to his name as well as scouts from the Championship and League One watching him at every game.

The 22-year-old is a former England youth international and he oozes class on the pitch - a League One club like Gillingham should definitely take a gamble and snap him up.

Gillingham should also look to poach Leyton Orient star Macauley Bonne.

The Zimbabwe international has taken the National League by storm, scoring 20 goals for the O's this season despite them being in a relegation battle.

It would be a big step up for the 22-year-old but he is still young and improving each game and he could become a real star in this Gills team.
