Bolton are just outside the relegation places with three games remaining.

Phil Parkinson has done well to get the team in the position they are currently in with the small resources available to him. His eye for a bargain and tactical knowledge have been key in making up for the financial difference between Bolton and the majority of the sides in the Championship.

The Trotters will want to build on this for next season assuming they stay up which isn't guaranteed yet. However, Parkinson will have to resort to finding free agents as well as scouring the lower divisions for bargains.

Here are three players that they should be trying to bring in...

Wollscheid is a free agent after being released by Ligue 1 Metz in January with no league appearances to his name. Just a few seasons ago he was playing for Stoke City in the Premier League, so the talent is clearly there even if he has struggled as of late.

Wages and the length of his contract would be the only areas that need to be worked out with him and his current situation means he is unlikely to ask for too much. Therefore, he could be an ideal signing to bolster Bolton's defence for the upcoming season. His experience and career path suggests that he should be too good for this level once he returns to full fitness which suits Bolton perfectly.

Carey has been a key player for Plymouth over recent seasons and could potentially help them get consecutive promotions because they currently find themselves outside the League One play-offs on goal difference.

He has 12 goals and 13 assists in 37 league games this season. This shows how effortless the transition up the leagues has been for him because he had 14 goals and 16 assists in 46 league games the previous season when the Pilgrims were promoted.

It wouldn't be surprise to see him do the same if he came up the to the Championship and Bolton could give him a starring role in the side with the team built around him.

Marriott is the top scorer in League One currently with 26 goals in 43 appearances. Even with that output, it doesn't look like Posh will be promoted this season, so he could look for a move away up into the higher divisions.

Bolton could utilise a prolific scorer to keep them in the division next season and they could guarantee a starting role because they have little competition in that role. They are the third lowest scorers in the league with 36, and their top goalscorer is Adam Le Fondre with six.

Therefore, it would be a good fit for both parties, although Marriott would have to be clinical because of the limited chances that would come his way in this setup.
