Sunderland have announced that young winger Jack Diamond has signed a new deal at the club keeping him in the North East until 2024.

The club posted the news on their official website that the 21-year-old would be signing on for three more seasons at the Stadium of Light.

Diamond played a crucial role in firing Harrogate to promotion last season whilst on loan from the Black Cats and since then has gone on to play 18 league games for Sunderland in this campaign.

The pacey winger will be hoping that his Sunderland side can continue their great form, which has seen them go 12 games unbeaten in all competitions and earn promotion back to the Championship.

Speaking to the club's website, Diamond said: "I’ve been here since I was 14, so to be offered the chance to play for Sunderland – when they are on the up – is a fantastic opportunity for me. I’ve broken into the first team this season under the new Head Coach and I’m pleased to be rewarded with a new contract, but my goal stays the same and that’s to play at the highest level I possibly can with this club.”

The Sunderland manager Lee Johnson will also be delighted that one of his side's brightest young talents has committed his future to the club until 2024.

“I’m delighted for Jack that he has signed a new contract. This is just the start for him – he has fantastic potential and some great attributes, and his performances are getting stronger and stronger as the days go by. We are very excited about Jack’s future with Sunderland AFC.” Johnson said.

Black Cats fans also took to Twitter to share their excitement over the new contract.
