Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of free agent Duncan Watmore on a short-term contract following his release from Sunderland, the club have confirmed.

Watmore has been recently training with the Teesside outfit, and has convinced manager Neil Warnock to offer him a contract - putting pen to paper on a deal until the middle of January.

Having joined Sunderland from Non League side Altrincham in 2013, the 26-year-old spent seven seasons at the Stadium of Light, scoring eight goals in 87 appearances in total.

However, much of Watmore's time in the North East was overshadowed by a number of long-term injuries, including two serious knee problems in December 2016 and then November 2017, which saw him sidelined for almost 100 matches.

And now the former England Under-21s international will be looking to make an impact during his short spell at the Riverside Stadium.
