Birmingham City picked up a positive point against Brentford on Tuesday evening, with Garry Monk’s side battling to 1-1 despite playing a large part of the second-half with 10 men.

Maikel Kieftenbeld was controversially dismissed for the Blues, but despite that, Monk’s side managed to pick up a valuable point as they look to pull themselves clear of the bottom three.

Monk’s side have just 11 points to their name from the opening 11 fixtures of the season, managing to record just one victory.

They’ve been tough to beat, though, drawing eight of those fixtures and losing just twice.

Their style of play is something that’s been criticised, particularly by Brentford boss, Dean Smith.

Smith took aim at Birmingham and fellow strugglers Reading over their time wasting: “There's certainly been some delaying tactics...people pay to come to watch football with the ball in play. Just lately in our last 2 home games the ball hasn't been in play a lot."

Leeds United faced similar problems against Birmingham when the Blues visited Elland Road back in September.

After Smith’s latest comments, there has been a strong reaction from the Birmingham supporters, who were quick to point out that Brentford also attempted some underhand tactics…
