League One outfit Port Vale are in for a busy summer with the club waiting on answers over ten out-of-contract players on contract offers, reports The Stoke Sentinel.
The West-Midland side are currently waiting to see if they will be keeping Chris Birchall, Joe Davis, Carl Dickinson, Richard Duffy, Jordan Hugill, Doug Loft, Chris Lines, Ryan Lloyd, Jennison Myrie-Williams and Chris Neal.
They are also trying to lure Billy Knott on a permanent deal after being released by Premier League Sunderland, he spent the second half of the season at Vale Park on loan.
Vale Chairman Smurthwaite says he has spoke to a couple of players about new contracts. ”I’ve been busy for a couple of weeks already, talking to agents and players who we want to keep or we might like to join us.” he said.
”Most of the players are away on holiday at the moment but I’ve had meetings with a couple who would be instrumental in our team for next season, I’ve had good feedback that they want to stay” he added.
Vale finished 9th in League One and are hoping to secure their players quickly and are currently looking to bolster the squad.
Smurthwaite said ”Micky has identified targets and we have also been approached by agents of players who would like to join Port Vale and think they would suit our style of play”
”There are a lot of players who are out of contract now and they are all competing to attract the attention of clubs. Negotiations are like a game of chess.”
