Bury's game against Gillingham this weekend has been suspended by the EFL, making it the fourth game in a row the side will not have played.

The club's off the field issues have been well-documented and the EFL confirmed on their official site that owner Steve Dale had failed to provide 'the outstanding evidence required' before the 9am deadline they had set this morning.

"The EFL Board has suspended Bury FC’s fixture with Gillingham on Saturday 17 August 2019 as it has not received the outstanding evidence required by today’s 9am deadline.

"Clarity is still required on plans to meet the Club’s commitments to football creditors, payment to unsecured creditors as part of the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), alongside source and sufficiency of funding for season 2019/20.

"As a result of the necessary evidence not being made available, the fixture has been suspended in accordance with EFL Regulation 28.2 and is the Club’s fourth game of the season not to take place as originally scheduled."

This comes after the club's staff remarkably released their own statement on the club's site last night, which called on the owner to accept an offer that they say had been made for the club.

A decision will be made on Thursday as to whether the game against Rotherham will go ahead next week and the EFL reiterated that they will only continue suspending fixtures up until August 23 where they could kick Bury out of the league.

The Verdict

This is a shambolic situation for the club and the league to be in as they continue to call off the games.

You have to feel sorry for the Bury fans in this situation and they will be extremely worried about what the future holds as there doesn't seem to be any progress made on selling the club.

To have four games suspended is not on and it looks as though there will be a fifth on Thursday as the situation escalates.
