Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett believes he could have found a replacement for former loan star Zeli Ismail, in academy star Marcus Harness.
Ismail who was a fan favourite at the Brewers and lit up League Two last season on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers that saw the club reach the Play-Off Final.
The 21 year old opted for a season on loan at League One side Notts County instead of the chance of a return to the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton have signed Lucas Akins and has shown signs already that he can be as successful as Ismail. Youngster Marcus Harness also has shown that he is ready to step up to the plate when he came on in the 4-0 win over Sheffield United.
Gary Rowett talking to the Burton Mail ”He’s a Zeli sort of player. What we saw, in that little flash to set the goal up, is that he’s one of those players who can go past people. Whether he can do that over a sustained period, we’ll only know when he gets opportunities.”
“From last season, the inclusion over three or four games for Marcus showed him what he had to do. He went away in the summer with the choice of whether he wants to work on those things and get a bit stronger. And Marcus has bulked up – we noticed last week that one or two of the younger ones, like Liam Slade and Matty (Palmer) as well, have grown over the summer. added Rowett.
“There’s one thing for sure this year – if we’ve got a player like that who’s come through our system, we want to use him.”
