Burton Albion have made their first signing of the close season in Leicester City defender George Taft, reports BBC Sport.

But Burton have parted company with Chris Hussey, who only signed a new one-year deal on Wednesday.

The deal for Hussey was triggered by an appearance clause but the club and player have decided to go their separate ways.

Taft, who is 6ft 5ins, came through the youth ranks at Leicester City but never made a first team appearance and was released by the Foxes at the end of the season.

Predominately a centre-half but can play left-back,  the 20-year-old England Under-19 international spent time on loan at York City last season.

Brewers boss Gary Rowett said: “George is a player we’ve been watching for a while, and we’re pleased to have him on board.

“He brings a lot of height to the team, something that we probably lacked a bit last season and we’re confident he can give us something a little bit different going into next season.”
