Just days before the 2017/18 Championship season gets underway, Burton Albion were hit with some devastating news.

Liam Boyce, who had only just arrived at the club this summer, has suffered a serious ACL injury which is likely to keep him sidelined for the majority of the season.

This is a major blow for the player, who had just earned his big move to England after finishing at the top of the goal scoring charts in the Scottish Premiership last season with Ross County.

But this is also a big blow for Burton Albion.

Nigel Clough would have been readying himself for the new season believing that Liam Boyce would be playing an integral role in his plans.

All of Clough's pre-season preparations would have revolved around using the 26-year-old - who netted 23 league goals for Ross County last season - as the central striker.

As it is, Burton Albion need to resort to plan B.

With two competent but unremarkable strikers at this level in Marvin Sordell and Luke Varney, Burton Albion may struggle to score the goals to keep them up.

To avoid second season syndrome, I believe that the Brewers are going to need reinforcements up front.

This could come in the shape of Blackburn Rovers striker Danny Graham.

The 31-year-old is a tried and tested goal scorer at this level and he has notched 13 goals in 40 appearances for Rovers last season.

With Premier League experience under his belt, the former Watford, Swansea, Sunderland and Middlesbrough forward would provide invaluable experience to the Burton side.

And after scoring four goals in five pre-season games, Graham looks in hot form.

This is definitely an option that Nigel Clough should consider.
