League One new boys Burton Albion are in ‘advanced talks’ with former Peterborough United winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, reports the Burton Mail.
The 23-year-old, who was released by the Posh last month, is reportedly on the verge of signing a one-year deal with the Brewers.
Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has beaten off competition from Notts County and Crawley Town to the winger, who can play on either flank.
The player favoured a move to the Pirelli Stadium to stay close to his home in Birmingham.
Mendez-Laing began his career at Wolves but never made a first-team appearance for the Molineux side and joined Peterborough for £100,000 in 2012 after a successful loan deal.
He made 51 league appearances for the Posh in three years at London Road and also had loan spells at Portsmouth, Shrewsbury Town and Cambridge United.
The arrival of the winger could see the departure of Adam McGurk, considering that Mendez-Laing mainly operates on the left, one of the positions McGurk has occupied for the last two seasons.
