Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough admitted Fulham were too good for his side after last night’s defeat, reports the BBC.

Clough’s side lost out 2-0 the London club, with Stefan Johansen and Scott Malone scoring second-half goals.

The Brewers dealt with Slavisa Jokanovic’s side for large parts of the first-half but Fulham’s superiority showed in the second-half.

Clough conceded there was a lot between the two sides, who are fighting at opposite ends of the table, he told the BBC: “There was a big gulf in quality and the disappointing thing was that we gave the first goal away with a mistake.”

Clough, who recently turned down an opportunity to manage Nottingham Forest, admitted he believed Fulham were one of the best sides his club have faced this season.

The Burton manager was not just full of praise for the opposition, he also admitted his side hadn’t made use of the ball when they were given it.

“We have to be better on the ball ourselves and our set-plays weren't great. When you don't have that much possession you have to make the most of set-plays.”

Last night’s victory leaves Fulham ninth in the Sky Bet Championship, trailing the play-off places by just three-points.

That is a stark contrast to Clough’s side, who are just one place and three-points above the relegation zone.

Clough’s side host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
