Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has warned Blackpool that his side are "looking to be strong" and want to make up for missed results in Saturday's Lancashire derby.

The Clarets have not won a Championship game since their victory against Huddersfield Town on the opening day of the 2022/23 season but will count themselves unlucky that they didn't come away with more in draws with Luton Town and Hull City and their defeat to Watford.

Saturday sees Kompany manage his first Lancashire derby as Burnley boss, with Blackpool set to visit Turf Moor, and, speaking to Lancs Live ahead of the game, the Belgian coach has issued a warning to the visitors about his team's approach.

He said: "I am not going to get too attached to what they do.

"In general they are a team that is getting results by being compact and organised and there is a good idea behind what they do with the ball and that makes them dangerous to play against.

"We want to reward ourselves with the results we have missed out on for whatever reason so far and it is something we are looking forward to. We are looking to be strong, whether that is against their best XI or not. We want to be strong in our game."

Blackpool sit above their hosts in the table thanks to Tuesday's victory away at QPR and their opening day win against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Neither of those results has been hugely convincing, with the Seasiders coming out on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline on both occasions.

The Verdict

These are strong words from Kompany, who knows a thing or two about winning derbies.

He was part of a Manchester City team that claimed some famous victories over Manchester United and he'll be keen for the Clarets to establish that same sort of dominance in Lancashire.

Blackpool do have players that can hurt the Turf Moor outfit, with keeping Josh Bowler quiet likely to be vital, but once again this could be a game that is settled by whether or not Kompany's side can take their chances.

They've not been clinical enough this season and ultimately that has cost them points.
