Burnley could revisit a move for Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the summer transfer window, a report from Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws has claimed.

Following his arrival at Turf Moor from Anderlecht in the summer, manager Vincent Kompany did introduce something of a Belgian influence to his side.

No more than six players were brought in from the Belgian top-flight in the summer, with three more making the move to Burnley from the same league in the summer.

One that the Clarets seemingly missed out on though was Verbruggen, although it appears they could look to rectify that when the market reopens at the end of this season.

According to this latest update, Burnley had agreed a fee of over €5million plus bonuses for the goalkeeper, who Kompany had worked hard to get.

However, it is thought issues around a work permit prevented the move, but that it is likely to be a delay to the deal, rather than something that stops it altogether, with Burnley expected to make another bid for the 20-year-old in the not too distant future.

The Verdict

It could make sense for Burnley to revisit a deal for Verbruggen in the summer.

With Bailey Peacock-Farrell entering the final year of his contract at Turf Moor at the end of this season, the Clarets may want to move him on, given he has never established himself at the club.

That would then likely leave them needing more cover and competition for Aro Muric between the posts, which Verbruggen would be capable of providing.

Indeed, with the Anderlecht stopper starting to emerge as a key player for his current club, you also get the feeling that if Burnley do not move for him quickly, another club could beat them to it.
