Talk Sport reports that Southampton are to make an offer for Burnley prolific striker Danny Ings as a direct replacement for Rickie Lambert.
Winchester born twenty one year old Ings, scored twenty one goals in the Sky Bet Championship, which fired The Clarets to The Premier League last season.
The England U-21 striker has been scouted heavily by Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool before Burnley achieved their own Premier League status.
Southampton have one regular first team striker in Jay Rodriguez since Lambert’s departure and they are keen to bolster their front line options.
Ings started his career in the Southampton youth teams and was released as a school boy before rebuilding his career at Bournemouth. He progressed through the Academy, making his first team debut in October 2009.
Ings would go on to score seven goals in twenty seven starts for the club before moving to Burnley in 2011. At Burnley his reputation has only grown, over three seasons at the club he has eighty seven appearances and twenty seven goals
