Burnley have been on the hunt for a new manager since the end of the 2021/22 season - but the end might now be in sight for the club.

The Clarets have been eyeing up a move for Vincent K0mpany as their next boss - and it looks as if a deal might finally get pushed over the line in the next few days, with the Burnley Express reporting that a deal could be done soon.

Kompany has already left his previous job with Anderlecht and that leaves him free to link up with any club that he likes as his next role.

It had seemed almost nailed on that he would be heading to Turf Moor too but reports from the last few days have suggested that Nice in France could instead swoop in and appoint him.

However, the latest report over the former Man City man's future has suggested Burnley will still get the job done - and that an announcement could soon be made to officially unveil him as their next manager.

Kompany has a solid record as a boss since hanging up his boots too, as he performed solidly with Anderlecht after starting out as their player-manager. After just holding the boss role with the side, he eventually left the club with a record of 1.70 points per match.

Now, it looks like he will be given the opportunity to test himself in England with Burnley - and if he can get the side promoted at the first time of asking, then he will already be a Clarets hero.

The Verdict

If Burnley can land Kompany as their next manager, then it looks like it could be a solid appointment for them, especially in the Championship.

Kompany is a proven winner as a player and has experience of performing to a high standard at the very top level in English football. Throw in the fact that he has been solid with Anderlecht and has already proven his mettle as a boss and it bodes well for the Clarets.

The issue is whether or not he will be able to have the same success as a manager in England as he did as a player. He has yet to be tested in the second tier and a manager with little experience of EFL football being appointed can sometimes be seen as a bit of a risk and can go either way.

Kompany though looks less like a risk - his experience as a player should stand him in good stead and his list of contacts should help the club to draw in plenty of top talent and that could certainly help him to get them promoted at the first time of asking.
