Stoke could have a battle on their hands to keep hold of Tyrese Campbell for the rest of the month, with The Sunday Mirror (16/01, p65) reporting that Burnley are keen to bring the forward to the club.

The 22-year-old has been with the Potters for the entirety of his career so far and having worked his way up to the first-team, is now viewed as a real talent for the Championship side. This year he has managed only five starts for the club but has still managed to bag two goals along the way.

When able to get on the field more regularly - such as in the 2019/20 season for example - he managed an even better total of 11 goal contributions in just 18 lots of 90 minutes, which gives him an impressive record of 0.61 goals or assists per 90.

It shows the level of the player already and shows how much potential he has to improve and become a really solid forward in the EFL. However, he may not be in the Football League for much longer, with Burnley willing to part ways with some cash to try and take him to Turf Moor.

Sean Dyche's side are currently mired in a relegation battle in the Premier League and want a striker who can help fire them to safety and they've turned their attention to Campbell. With Chris Wood having departed for Newcastle, it leaves them short upfront and a new striker as a target certainly comes as no surprise.

Stoke though will not be too keen to sell one of their most talented assets - and now face a battle to keep him at the club for the rest of the window.

The Verdict

Tyrese Campbell could be a really shrewd signing for Sean Dyche and Burnley, with the youngster clearly very talented and already experienced in the EFL.

While he hasn't yet been tested in the top flight, he is the perfect age to be able to try his luck in the Premier League and regular gametime at a high level could bring his development on leaps and bounds. Based on his showings in the Championship so far too, you would expect him to thrive.

It's his talent though that means Stoke are unlikely to want to let go of him. He could cost a pretty penny and it might cost a lot of the fee that Burnley recouped from the sale of Chris Wood to bring him to Turf Moor.

Still, Stoke won't be too eager to part ways with him - but there certainly looks to be a transfer tussle on the cards now between the two sides.
