Burnley striker Danny Ings has told Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to join Liverpool this summer, reports The Independent.
Spurs have been persistent in their pursuit of the Burnley striker and even tried to muscle in on the Liverpool deal by offering the Clarets £12 million in an attempt to do a quick deal.
Ings, who is out-of-contract at Turf Moor at the end of June but any clubs wanting him will have to pay around £5-6m in compensation, has told Spurs that his preference is to join Liverpool, having been a long-term target for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
Burnley will have no say in which club the player joins, but if a compensation fee can not be agreed with Liverpool or any other club, then it will have to be set by a tribunal.
The 22-year-old is currently away on holiday before joining up with the England Under-21 squad for the European Championships next month and the former Bournemouth forward is hoping to have his future resolved before then.
Ings scored 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances but was unable to keep Burnley in the top-flight.
