According to reliable journalist, Alan Nixon, Burnley have been alerted by the competition to sign Barnsley’s Marc Roberts this summer, and will need to move if they want to sign the defender ahead of their rivals.

Nixon took to his personal twitter account, @reluctantnicko, to confirm that following Birmingham City entering the race to sign Roberts, Burnley are now on alert, and will have to make a move to sign the Barnsley star.

Harry Redknapp is looking to shape a squad capable of promotion at Birmingham, and has identified Roberts as a transfer target, rivalling Premier League club, Burnley.

Roberts featured on 40 occasions in the Sky Bet Championship last season, scoring four goals and helping the Tykes finish a respectable 14th in the table on their return to the second-tier.

There has been a mass exodus of players from Oakwell in the last six-months, and Roberts could be the next high-profile name to turn his back on Paul Heckingbottom.

Sean Dyche may turn to Roberts to replace Michael Keane at Turf Moor, with the Burnley defender reportedly set for a multi-million pound transfer away from the club this summer, after an impressive campaign in the top-flight.

Where do you think Roberts will be playing his football next season? Will he move to the Premier League with Burnley? Or could he move to Birmingham to link-up with Redknapp? Let us know your thoughts!
