Burnley set to complete deal for 26-year-old already familiar with Kompany

Burnley are closing in on the signing of Anderlecht midfielder Josh Cullen, a report from The Burnley Express has revealed.

Cullen initially came through the youth ranks at West Ham, but made just a handful of appearances for the Hammers, instead spending much of his time out on loan in the EFL with Bradford, Bolton and Charlton.

The midfielder then completed a permanent move to Anderlecht in October 2020, where he made 80 appearances across all competitions, while playing under current Burnley manager Vincect Kompany.

Where did Burnley finish in the league last season?

Now it seems as though the pair are set to be reunited at Turf Moor, with this latest update claiming that Cullen left Anderlecht’s pre-season training camp on Friday, in order to discuss a move to the Championship club.

It is thought that Burnley have already agreed a fee of €3-3.5million to sign the midfielder, who will apparently have a medical ahead of the proposed move on Monday.

If confirmed, Cullen could become Burnley’s sixth summer signing, following Scott Twine, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, CJ Egan-Riley, Luke McNally and Samuel Bastien in moving to Turf Moor.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could prove to be a useful piece of business for Burnley if completed.

The Clarets are somewhat short on options in midfield, so Cullen would provide a useful presence in the centre of the park for Kompany’s side.

Indeed, the fact that he already knows the Burnley boss should help him to settle in well at Turf Moor, and potentially perform to the best of his ability during his time with the club.

As a result, this feels like it could be another exciting signing for the club, in what has already been a productive summer transfer window at Turf Moor.
