After plenty transfer talks between Burnley and Manuel Benson, the Burnley Express is reporting a deal is finally done.

Club boss Vincent Kompany has been desperate to strengthen his squad for the new Championship season and having already made nine signings this window so far, it appears he still wants more new faces to join up with the Clarets.

One of the names the former Man City player has been eager to seal a transfer deal for is Manuel Benson, who currently plays for Antwerp in Belgium. The manager will be familiar with the player from his time managing in the same country with Anderlecht and now the boss wants to bring him to the Championship.

Having tried to seal a seven-figure move for the player, it now appears that a deal has been agreed between Burnley and the Belgian club. The 25-year-old looks set to undergo a medical ahead of a move this week and that means that Kompany could finally land the player he wants at Turf Moor.

Last season, Benson played in 28 games for Antwerp in the league and produced a total of five goals and three assists. It meant an average for the player of 0.42 goals or assists per 90 and it did enough to impress Kompany, who now wants him to do similar for Burnley.

Now, with a deal agreed for the player, he looks set to put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with the Clarets - and he joins what is a strong Burnley squad for the Championship season.

The Verdict

Burnley signing Antwerp's Manuel Benson is another solid piece of business from Vincent Kompany and could very much help the side to seal that Premier League promotion.

Looking at the Clarets squad, they already have a lot of good players. Yes, they've sold the likes of Dwight McNeil and will probably sell Maxwel Cornet too but the club have recruited well and still have plenty of options to come into the first-team for the club.

Benson has played some good football in Belgium and is a good age to come into the first-team fold at Burnley. Capable of scoring or assisting, the player could be come a real asset for Burnley this season in the second tier and even if he is used in rotation he is a solid player to have in their ranks at Turf Moor.

Even with the transfer deal likely to be expensive, it is another good bit of transfer business from Burnley this summer transfer window.
