Burnley have not given up hope of signing Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga this summer, despite some media outlets insisting Middlesbrough have won the race to sign the striker, reports the Burnley Express.

Reports in The Sun indicated that Assombalonga was on his way to the Riverside Stadium, with Boro willing to pay £14m for his service and a weekly wage of £60k.

Despite Boro sitting firmly in the driving seat in the race to sign the striker, Burnley have not given up hope of agreeing a deal with Forest and are preparing an improved offer.

Forest swiftly rejected an £8m bid earlier this summer, but Burnley are preparing to return with an improved cash plus player bid, with the hope the lure of Premier League football will see Assombalonga snub a move to Boro.

Sean Dyche is desperate to add Assombalonga to his squad at Turf Moor, after the striker’s reputation has grown during his three-years at The City Ground.

Assombalonga has 30 goals from just 65 Championship appearances, including 14 during the 2016/17 campaign, as he proved to be crucial in Forest’s relegation battle.

The 24-year-old’s two goals on the final day of the season helped Forest to a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town, which confirmed the club’s Championship status.
