Burnley make transfer offer for 27-year-old

Burnley have made an offer for Scottish centre back Jack Hendry, according to the Mail Online.

The 27-year old is currently plying his trade in Belgium with Club Brugge.

The Scot has spent one season with the club, where he played 19 times in the Belgian First Division, with 16 of those appearances coming from the start.

Vincent Kompany is looking to strengthen his options in defence having lost the likes of Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Nathan Collins this summer.

The former Anderlecht manager will have seen Hendry up close last year having managed against him.

Hendry also spent a season with Oostende in the same division, playing 27 times as the team finished 6th in the table.

The defender previously experienced the Championship with Wigan Athletic in 2016-17.

Kompany has already added a number of players to the Clarets’ squad since his appointment as permanent manager earlier this summer.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis, CJ Egan-Reilly and Luke McNally have all been signed to bolster the team’s defensive options, but Kompany is still aiming to reinforce that area of the team even further.

Cercle Brugge’s Vitinho is also expected to join the club following an agreement over a deal with Burnley.

The Verdict

Hendry has moved around a lot in his career, never quite working his way consistently into any team.

Kompany already has brought in some good options to play a role in the team’s defence so it may be a concern that Hendry is once again coming in to be a squad member.

But coming back to the UK may also be what the player is looking to do at this stage of his career.

As long as the overall cost is kept relatively low, this should make for a solid addition to the first team squad.
