Premier League Burnley have thrown their name in the hat to sign Portsmouth star Jamal Lowe, potentially ruining Millwall's hopes of landing the attacking midfielder.

According to the Mirror (print edition, Saturday 15th June 2019), the Clarets are looking to sign the 24-year-old, who was in superb form Pompey as they reached the League One play-offs.

The move from Sean Dyches' men could well be a bitter blow to Championship strugglers Millwall's hopes of landing Lowe, with the Lions only yesterday reportedly making a £2.5m move for the former St Albans man.

Lowe smashed in an impressive 17 goals for Portsmouth last season as he saw his stock rise as one of the finest players outside of the top two divisions in English football.

However, those goals, coupled with some fine performances at Fratton Park, were always bound to attract the attention of clubs from the Championship and beyond, and it seems that there is now something of a scramble to seal the signing of the Pompey man.

Burnley are not averse to giving players a chance from the leagues below, with Sean Dyche hosting an impressive record of snapping up players from below the Premier League and turning them into consistent performers in the top flight at Turf Moor.

The Verdict

It's not big surprise to see the likes of Burnley looking at Lowe, with the Clarets no doubt willing to take a small punt on a player who has done so well in the last 12 months.

Millwall is an appealing enough move for Lowe, but it's going to be hard for him to turn down a move to the top flight if Dyche and his team follow up this supposed interest.

Either way, whichever club he chooses will be getting a fine player who can only get better with better players around him.
