Burnley are considering a summer transfer window move for out-of-contract Tom Hamer.

According to Alan Nixon, a fee of £400,000 could be agreed with Burton Albion for the player.

Despite being out of contract, a transfer sum will still need to be negotiated due to the player being under 24-years old.

But the Clarets are hoping that the two clubs can come to an agreement over a fee in order to avoid the wait that would accompany a tribunal hearing.

The club is looking to add depth at right-back, with Connor Roberts being linked with a move away from the club.

The 22-year old played 45 times in League One as Burton achieved a 16th place finish.

One goal and two assists was also a good return from full back, as Hamer solidified himself as a key player for the third division side.

Burnley are also considering a move for Blackpool's Jordan Gabriel, should Roberts depart this transfer window.

Vincent Kompany will be hoping to lead the club back to the Premier League having suffered relegation to the Championship last season.

The club begin their second division journey with a trip to face Huddersfield Town on July 29.

The Verdict

Hamer would be a solid and promising signing for Burnley to make this summer.

He has played well in League One and could be a very useful addition to Kompany’s squad.

The potentially low transfer sum makes this an ideal signing to strengthen the team’s depth at full back.

While Hamer will likely be second choice, this is still a great opportunity for him to earn playing time in the Championship, which is a challenge he should relish.
