Burnley are set to continue to add to their squad with CJ Egan-Riley and Taylor Harwood-Bellis set to join from Manchester City.

The Clarets have had a busy week after finalising deals for Scott Twine and Luke McNally, with new boss Vincent Kompany desperate to add to a depleted group following his appointment.

Strengthening the defence was always going to be a priority following Ben Mee and James Tarkowski leaving and whilst McNally helps on that front, further additions were expected, particularly as there are doubts over Nathan Collins' future amid a lot of top-flight interest.

And, it appears they're close, as The Athletic revealed that Egan-Riley and Harwood-Bellis are 'close' to signing for the Championship side.

Kompany will be aware of both players as they came through the ranks at City when the former skipper was at the club, so he is sure to have used his connections to get these deals over the line.

Providing the moves go through, it would be Egan-Riley's first real taste of competitive football, although Harwood-Bellis has had spells on loan with Blackburn, Anderlecht and Stoke.

The verdict

It's an exciting time to be a Burnley fan as Kompany prepares to put his own mark on the team and the early signings are positive in the sense that they're young, hungry and keen to impress.

Egan-Riley and Harwood-Bellis would fit the profile of the type the boss wants and they will be eager to show what they can do in the Championship.

Improving the defence was a priority and if these two deals get done, along with McNally's arrival last night, then Burnley's defence is looking strong.
