Burnley appear to have won the race to sign Bristol City's highly-rated left-back Joe Bryan, with the Clarets set to pay £6m for his services.

That's according to the Mirror who said Sean Dyche's men have seen off interest from several other top-flight sides to secure a deal for the Robins star.

Bryan has had a fine campaign for Bristol City and caught the attention after playing a pivotal role in their fine Carabao Cup run which took them to the semi-final. They memorably beat Manchester United in the quarter-final with Bryan scoring a thunderous goal.

As well as that, the 24-year old impressed in the league and even though the Championship campaign ultimately ended in disappointment it was a good season for Bryan personally.

And, that has convinced Dyche to splash out on the player who is capable of playing in midfield as well as full-back.

Bryan has come through the ranks at Ashton Gate and has played over 200 games for his local side.

The Verdict

This is a blow for Lee Johnson and Bristol City but they will have expected interest in their players after failing to win promotion.

Burnley will be getting a player who is ready to play in the top-flight and it's a good move for Bryan with the Clarets set to enjoy European football next season.

Now though, Johnson will hope to use the funds raised to help strengthen the squad for next season.
