In a bizarre twist to the continuing stories about Joey Barton's one-year deal at Burnley, Clarets boss Sean Dyche has told Sky Sports that it was an omelette that convinced the experienced midfielder to join the Lancashire side.

Barton has regretted sending that tweet
Barton joined Burnley because of an omelette... Apparently

During a chat over lunch, Burnley boss Sean Dyche cooked Barton an omelette that reportedly helped convince the controversial midfielder to put pen-to-paper.

Dyche, an effective manager after getting Burnley promoted to the Premier League in 2014, is evidently testing his skills elsewhere and adding to his repertoire as a manager.

"It was actually an omelette [I made for him]," said Dyche. "So there wasn't too much skill involved.

"I do try my hand at cooking every now and again but I didn't set myself on making anything too flash".

Modesty takes over in his interview. However, the omelette seemed to be good enough to impress Joey Barton who had attracted interest from a number of clubs.

A former Premier League midfielder, Barton was released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season and he had been looking for a club for a while before Dyche convinced him to join Burnley.

Yet in an interview with Darren Fletcher and Robbie Savage for BT Sport, Barton said that Dyche was the most impressive manager he'd encountered for a long time.

So whether or not it really was the omelette that persuaded Barton to sign for Burnley remains to be seen. However, it certainly is a twist in the tail within the move.

Now it's time for Joey Barton to impress Sean Dyche as the Sky Bet Championship season progresses - the midfielder certainly has talent, now is his time to show it.
