Sheffield United view Daniel Jebbison as an even better prospect that Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they aim to hold off interest from Everton in the striker during the final week of the summer transfer window.

The Blades have always had a steady stream of talent coming out of their academy, with Jebbison the latest sensation.

As per a report from The AthleticSheffield United are mindful of letting the 18-year-old leave on the cheap this summer, despite Everton's reported bid tabled around the £5m mark.

The view in South Yorkshire is that Jebbison could be an even better prospect that Calvert-Lewin, who they allowed to depart the club at a young age for a nominal fee of £1.5m.

Calvert-Lewin headed for Everton in 2016 and has since gone on to score 42 Premier League goals, establishing himself in the England squad, heading to Euro 2020 in the summer gone by.

Jebbison, meanwhile, continues to find his way under Slavisa Jokanovic at Sheffield United. It's a fiercely competitive pool of strikers at Bramall Lane, with the teenager only offered two appearances in the League Cup so far this season.

He started last night's second round victory over Derby County, but was substituted at half-time at a time when Jokanovic's side were losing.

The Verdict

Calvert-Lewin is a mistake that Sheffield United cannot afford to make again. Of course, he wasn't the player he is now back in 2016, but £1.5m for a future England international is a really small fee looking back.

Jebbison has a high ceiling. Whether that's as high as Calvert-Lewin's remains to be seen, although you can understand why the Blades want to see if they can help him reach those heights at Bramall Lane rather than elsewhere.

That view is an added hurdle for Everton to overcome as they look to snap up another talented striker from South Yorkshire.
