The new EFL season kicks off in earnest this evening as Luton Town and Middlesbrough go head-to-head at Kenilworth Road in the Sky Bet Championship.

From there, the next nine months or so are set to thrill and excite and Sheffield Wednesday fans will hope that this year they can put a challenge together for the top six.

They've seen Steve Bruce leave, of course, and Lee Bullen is in charge for the weekend with them taking on Reading at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Bullen may or may not get the full-time gig, but a win tomorrow won't do his chances any harm and it looks as though he's got plenty of options to pick from when it comes to sorting his line-up.

Talking to the press earlier today and as reported by Wednesday's official channel, he revealed that his only fitness issue is goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith going into this game with the Royals:

The Verdict

This is an early positive for the Owls.

Obviously, the players that play still need to get a result but it is clear that they have a squad that is capable of offering different options depending on how the match is progressing.

Bullen will want to stake a claim for the job with a win tomorrow, but Reading aren't going to be pushovers and so a close game at the Madejski could be on the cards.
