Sheffield Wednesday need to build the team around Fernando Forestieri if they are to succeed.

Last season it isn’t wrong to say that Sheffield Wednesday lacked a real focal point.

Now the term focal point on this occasion does not mean a big target man up front, they have Atdhe Nuhiu for that.

The focal point term refers to someone to build the team around.

Wednesday were constantly juggling their juggernaut attacking options around that they failed to have a consistent attacking force.

You can understand the temptation, if a player isn’t scoring, drop them. But sometimes you need to be selective and play yourself in to form.

With the attacking alterations aplenty, there wasn’t a sole individual to build the team around. That needs to change.

Manager Jos Luhukay has several key players whom are more than capable of being the Wednesday highlight next season.

Fernando Forestieri is that man.

Much like when the play-maker was at Watford, he was a player who had a free role, but the team cantered around his creative ability to offer chances to Troy Deeney Matej Vydra in the Hornets' attack.

A player who can unlock defences and score goals, too, is a rare commodity in the Championship without going out and splashing an unnecessary amount of money on one.

The attacker only made six appearances for the Owls last season due to injury but he still managed to score five goals in that time.

Top scorer Nuhiu managed 14 in all competitions in 38 appearances. That highlights the impression Forestieri had on the side.

Having missed his presence, Wednesday struggled.

The year the Owls made the play-off final, the little Argentinian managed 12 goals in 27.

If Wednesday are going to get anywhere near to competing like they had two years ago, Forestieri will be a huge component to that.

Once fit, Luhukay need to see the importance of how building the team around the 28-year-old will correlate with improved results.

If Wednesday are to compete that decision is imperative.
