Manchester United have been linked with a move for Swansea City's Daniel James in the summer according to Sky Sports.

James has been in impressive form this season and has four goals and seven assists to his name in this year's campaign as the Swans finished 10th in the Championship.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Wales legend, John Hartson feels that Swansea will struggle to keep hold of James before the season gets underway in August.

"If they are offered in excess of £20million for Daniel, then it’s difficult to turn down.

"It would also be hard to deny the boy the opportunity of playing for a Manchester United."

James had previously been linked with Leeds United, and even completed a medical at the club's training ground, but Swansea failed to respond to calls to complete the deal.

Hartson believes that Swansea's reluctance to complete the deal with Leeds proved to be a blessing in disguise, as they're set to receive a considerable amount more than they originally would have in January's transfer window.

"But I believe Swansea pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute because they thought, at that price, it was a steal."

Hartson also outlined James' attributes and is hoping that James kicks on at his next club, and doesn't struggle to build on his impressive performances this season.

"He is a special talent and very, very quick. He runs with the ball, can beat a man and can finish – I watched him score for Wales in only his second game, the winning goal against Slovakia.

"If James ends up at a big club, then it’s up to him to make sure he doesn’t simply disappear."

The Verdict:

"He's spot on.

"There's no doubting that James has the quality to move to the Premier League, although I'm not too sure that Manchester United is the right club for him.

"James is a player that is destined for the top in the future."
