Derby County have endured plenty of ups and downs over the years, with the days of the club playing their football in the Premier League feeling like a distant memory.

The Rams are currently playing in the Championship though, and have struggled for a positive run of results in the second-tier this term under the management of Wayne Rooney.

They're currently sat 19th in the second-tier standings, and find themselves eight points clear of the relegation zone with seven matches remaining in this year's campaign.

Derby beat Luton Town 2-0 in their most recent match, which ended a run of seven matches without a win for Rooney's side.

The club have had their fair share of players over the years that have impressed in their time with the club, whilst others have struggled to make a significant impact.

We take a look at the dream Derby County XI from the last decade, but do you agree?

Find out which player starts us off on the list, on the next page....

Scott Carson is the first name on the list, with the Derby County goalkeeper signing for the club back in 2015.

The shot-stopper was a regular in the starting XI for the Rams, after previously being on the books with the likes of Liverpool, West Brom and Wigan Athletic.

Carson has spent the last two seasons on loan with Premier League giants Manchester City, and hasn't made an appearance for the club's senior side.

Carson's current contract with Derby County is set to expire at the end of the 2020/21 season, and it remains to be seen as to what the future holds for the experienced goalkeeper.

Jayden Bogle is in at right-back with the former Derby County defender making 90 appearances in total for the club.

He wasted no time in making a positive impact at full-back after breaking into the first-team setup. He assisted 16 goals in his time with Derby, which edges the likes of Andre Wisdom and John Brayford in the team from the last decade.

Bogle's impressive showings didn't go unnoticed though, with Sheffield United signing him permanently in 2020 for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.47million.

The 20-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions this term for the Blades, who look as though they're fighting a losing battle in their efforts to retain their status as a Premier League club.

Derby are likely to be coming up against Bogle ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Richard Keogh is the first centre-back on the list, with the defender making over 350 appearances for Derby County, in his seven-year spell with the club.

He was a regular in the Derby starting XI over the years, and despite his error in the play-off final against QPR, Keogh was a fantastic servant to the Rams.

Keogh's time with Derby County ended in frustrating circumstances though, as an off-the-field incident resulted in him picking up a serious injury, before moving on from the club in 2019.

The Irishman moved to MK Dons in 2020, but caught the eye with some strong performances, and is now playing his football for Huddersfield Town.

Jake Buxton would pair Keogh in the heart of the Derby County defence, with the former Rams defender making over 150 appearances in total for the club.

He signed for Derby back in 2009 after a spell with Burton Albion, and went on to become a regular for the club over the years, before departing in favour of a move to Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2016.

Buxton's stay at the DW Stadium was a brief one though, as he went on to re-sign for Burton Albion just one year later. He was appointed as Burton Albion's player-manager in May 2020, but certainly didn't endure the best of spells in the dugout.

He won just twice in his 21 matches in charge of the club, and was sacked from the managerial role in December 2020.

Craig Forsyth is next up, with the left-back signing for the club from Watford back in 2013.

Forsyth became a reliable member of the Derby County team over the years, and has made 220 appearances in total for the Rams.

The Scottish full-back has found regular game time hard to come by in recent seasons though, with the 32-year-old struggling with injuries.

He has made 14 appearances in total for the club this term, and still has another year to run on his current contract at Pride Park, and it remains to be seen as to whether he has a future with the club.

George Thorne is in the CDM role for Derby in their best team of the last decade, with the midfielder spending six years with the Rams.

Thorne was hugely impressive in the early stages of his time with the club, after signing in 2014 after a spell with West Brom.

But he struggled to kick-on after suffering a serious knee injury in 2014, which disrupted his game time from then on. Thorne left the club in 2020.

He was most recently with League One side Oxford United, but has been without a club since leaving them in the same year as his Derby County departure.

Will Hughes is next up, with the former Derby County midfielder catching the eye with a number of impressive displays whilst with the Rams.

The midfielder broke into the club's first-team picture in 2011, and went from strength to strength from then on, as he made 189 appearances in total.

Hughes departed the club in 2017, as he moved to Watford, which is the club he's still playing his football with. The central midfielder has become a key member of Xisco Munoz's side, as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Hughes was a hugely popular member of the Derby County team, and established himself a firm fans favourite for his tireless work in the middle of the park over the years.

Craig Bryson is the next central midfielder on the list, with the experienced Scotsman spending eight seasons with the club.

Bryson signed for the club in 2011 after a four-year spell with Scottish side Kilmarnock reached a conclusion. The midfielder went on to captain Derby County, and made 278 appearances in total for the club, before departing in favour of a move to Aberdeen in the summer of 2019.

The Scotsman's stay with Aberdeen was a brief one though, as he moved to St Johnstone after just a single season with the Dons.

He has made 20 appearances in total for St Johnstone so far this season, and will remain a player that is held in high regard by the majority of Derby County supporters for his service to the club.

Harry Wilson is next up, with the Welsh midfielder catching the eye with a number of impressive performances for Derby County in his time with the club.

Wilson was only with the club for a single season, whilst on loan from Premier League giants Liverpool, but made more than a positive impact in his spell with the Rams.

The midfielder made 49 appearances in total for the club, and chipped in with 18 goals and six assists as the Rams battled their way to the play-off final in the Championship.

But his efforts weren't quite enough for Derby under the management of Frank Lampard, as they were beaten by Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.

Wilson is now playing his football for Cardiff City in the Championship, whilst on loan from Liverpool once again.

Derby County have struggled to have a player that can match Chris Martin's goalscoring exploits over the years, but Matej Vydra certainly eased the weight of expectation on the Scotsman's shoulders.

Vydra signed for the club in 2016 after a spell with Watford, where he found game time hard to come by with the Hornets in the Premier League, after playing a key role in their promotion-winning campaign.

The Czech international went on to score five goals in his first season with Derby, before scoring 22 goals in his second campaign with the club.

He left the club to sign for Burnley in the summer of 2018, and is still with the Premier League side, despite struggling for a consistent run in the starting XI this term.

Chris Martin is the last name on the list, with the former Derby County forward making over 220 appearances in total for the Rams.

The forward signed for the club in 2013 after an impressing in a loan spell at Pride Park, and scored 76 goals in his time with Derby County.

Although he didn't win any trophies with Derby, Martin's spell with the club was a strong one, and he's a player that was reliable on a regular basis over the years for the Rams.

Martin departed the club at the end of the 2019/20 season, and went on to sign for Bristol City. He has made 30 appearances for the Robins in total this season, and will be hoping he can finish this year's campaign strongly.
