Steve Bruce is coming to the end of his first month in charge of Sheffield Wednesday and he'll be fairly content with what he has seen.

There's been an improved defensive record worked up by his side, whilst some decent looking signings were made in January - with several impressing in the development win over Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The leading light, though, was a youth product in Conor Grant and so, here, our latest six-point opinion takes a closer look at the Owls man and where his future could go...

First of all, who is he?

He's a Republic of Ireland Under-17 international and before joining the Owls he featured for Malahide United and Shamrock Rovers.

He joined Wednesday in 2016/17 after doing well on a trial period and is one of several bright prospects in the club's academy at the moment.

What's his playing style?

He's an attacking midfielder and comes with a fine final ball when he gets to that last third.

He's quite languid in style and ghosts past opponents, whilst in and around the box he is good at reading situations, picking up loose balls and delivering a killer pass or taking a shot himself.

He looks very calm and composed when in possession.

Is Bruce aware of him?

It seems that way.

Bruce was spotted at Bramall Lane on Tuesday night as he watched Grant and his team-mates beat Sheffield United.

He won't have been there just for Grant, of course, but the Irishman stood out during the game and so he should be well aware of him now.

What could stand in his way?

Aside from the usual pitfalls that await a young footballer, it's Grant's position that might give him a headache.

He's a midfielder who likes to get forward and make things happen - the competition for such a spot is big at most clubs.

Wednesday, meanwhile, possess some of the finest midfielders in the league - and so that is difficult for him too - though he has got plenty of time yet.

When can we expect him to play?

This season might be a bit early, but then you never know.

Wednesday have a lot of good young players coming through - and some have already made it into the first team this season.

Depending on where their season is towards the end of the campaign, Bruce might feel it suitable to give the likes of Grant a run-out.

One for the future, then?

Quite possibly.

It's always tough to say at this stage, and he will have down times and off days but he does have plenty going for him.

He looked at home on a pitch with several senior stars on Tuesday night, and has great quality and assurance on the ball - a key trait in the modern game.

He has time on his side, too, so it's right to watch with interest - just not too much expectancy yet.
