Steve Bruce believes Aston Villa fans will love watching the club’s latest signing, Scott Hogan, and labelled him a “breath of fresh air,” reports the club’s official website.
Hogan joined Villa on transfer deadline day from Sky Bet Championship rivals Brentford. The striker’s signature was in-demand throughout January, with Premier League side West Ham reportedly monitoring his situation closely over the course of the month.
The 24-year old has 14-league goals this season, all from his time with the Bees, and made his Villa debut in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Midland rivals Nottingham Forest.
Hogan is expected to make his home debut for the club this weekend, and Bruce explained why the Villa faithful will love the striker: “He’s perpetual motion. He’s quick. He’s direct. He’s powerful. And he’s also a very, very good finisher.
“He’s a very genuine guy – genuine as they come. He is a breath of fresh air.”
Bruce converted to a 3-5-2 formation for the defeat against Forest, as he tried to accommodate Hogan and top scorer Jonathan Kodjia in the starting 11.
The former Hull City boss believes the duo could be a deadly combination: “Our strike force can hopefully score a few goals and get us where we want to be.”
“I think our fans will enjoy watching him. I think he has a big, huge part to play in the resurgence of this club.”
Villa are struggling in the Championship this season. Following back-to-back defeats against Brentford and Forest, the club are 14th in the table and 13-points behind the play-off places.
Bruce’s side face Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town this weekend at Villa Park, where they will be looking for a response to their recent defeats.
