Aston Villa are being linked with a swoop for Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, as a possible replacement for Sam Johnstone who could be recalled by Man United.

This is according to the Sun, who claim that Steve Bruce is monitoring the out-of-favour Magpies keeper.

Would this be a good move for Villa?

We issue our opinions below.....

Adam Simeoni

Bruce must make this move.

If Johnstone goes Bruce will have a serious problem to deal with, and Darlow is the perfect answer.

Struggling for opportunities at Newcastle, the goalkeeper could walk into any Championship side, and Villa should make sure he chooses them in January.

George Dagless

I think so.

First of all I think Villa have to try their very hardest to bring in the Man United man permanently.

If they can't, though, Darlow would be ideal. He's accomplished at Championship level and knows how to get promoted.\

Chris Gallagher

Yes, it would be a sensible move.

Should Johnstone get recalled then Steve Bruce would want someone who can settle in straight away and Darlow would do that.

He's probably a slight downgrade on the on-loan United man but Villa would struggle to get someone better in January.

Alfie Burns

I think he would be a good replacement, but Villa will not want to lose Sam Johnstone.

Darlow was impressive for Newcastle last season in the Championship, and the arrival of a player with his quality would cushion such a crushing blow regarding Johnstone.

If you compare the two, I think Johnstone is better, but there is no doubt that if Darlow was brought in to replace the on-loan Manchester United ace, Villa would feel like they dodged a potential disaster.
