Steve Bruce has given another update on long-term Sheffield Wednesday absentee Gary Hooper ahead of this weekend’s clash with Blackburn Rovers.
The striker continues to recover from injury but is expected to be part of a friendly next week as he looks to regain match fitness.
“We’ve arranged a closed doors friendly next Tuesday,” Bruce told his pre-match press conference.
“In terms of game-time, Hooper hasn’t played a lot but he’s putting the hard work in in training so fingers crossed.”
The former Norwich City striker is yet to play this season and has been sidelined since December 2017, leaving Steven Fletcher, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao to carry the goalscoring burden.
Wednesday are currently unbeaten in their last nine matches and have lost just once in their previous 15.
It is a run of form that has seen them climb into the frame for a late push for the play-offs, sat just four points behind Derby County.
This sounds fairly promising.
Hooper is a top Championship striker and Wednesday have missed him since he has been out.
Although, his long term future at the club remains up in the air, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.
