Steve Bruce has played down Tammy Abraham arriving at Aston Villa, insisting he hasn’t held talks with Chelsea over the availability of the striker.

The intensity of Villa’s recruitment has stepped up over the course of the last week, with a striker still firmly on Bruce’s radar.

Abraham has been one name linked, but Bruce was quick to play down the likelihood of Abraham joining when discussing the striker with Birmingham Live: “If he does become available then there’s a definite interest from us, of course there is.

“But I haven’t had any conversation with Chelsea.

“If he was available then I think half the Championship would love to take somebody like Tammy Abraham lets be honest. I don’t think we’re alone.”

According to Birmingham Live, Abraham has a number of options to choose from, with the striker weighing up the next move in his career ahead of the deadline on August 31.

Abraham’s opportunities in Chelsea’s first-team have been limited for some time now, with the Blues opting to send the 20-year-old out on loan as he continues to develop.

A spell with Bristol City brought 26 goals, with 23 of those coming in the Sky Bet Championship during the 2016/17 campaign.

Last year, Abraham got a chance in the Premier League with Swansea City, but scored just five goals as the Swans suffered relegation back into the second-tier.

The Verdict

Abraham is a talent, who Villa would love to have on board to strengthen their attacking options.

Bruce’s update is disappointing, as there is genuine hope that Abraham will make the move to Villa Park.

However, there is a week of the window remaining, which does leave the door open for Villa to get Abraham on board.
