Bristol Rovers are seemingly set to sanction a loan move for Michael Kelly to Yeovil Town, with the Bristol Post reporting that the defender is close to moving to the National League side until the end of the season.

Kelly has been used sparingly at the Memorial Stadium this term and has only appeared in just a handful of Papa John's Trophy games for the Gas this season.

A temporary move to Huish Park should provide the 23-year-old with the game time he craves after falling down the pecking order at left back under Paul Tisdale.

The Scotsman has racked up 46 appearances for the League One club since arriving on a free transfer back in 2018 and was previously considered a key member of the squad.

7 of these 18 facts about Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale are fake – Can you identify which ones aren’t true?

Capped six times at youth level for his country, Kelly's contract with the third tier outfit expires this summer.

The Verdict

This is definitely the right move for both the player and the club as Kelly simply hasn't had a good look in at the club this season.

Bristol Rovers are well stocked in that area of defence with Luke Leahy having been nailed down as first choice, whilst the likes of Ali Koiki and David Tutonda providing sufficient back up.

The 23-year-old will now be looking to make a mark for Yeovil in the National League and if things go well, he could well be snapped up as a free agent in the summer, with his deal with the Gas set to run it's course in June.

In short, this is the right move for the player at this stage of his career and he should be aiming to make the most of his opportunity once the transfer is completed this month.
