Bristol Rovers head coach Joey Barton has confirmed that the club are in talks with Scott Sinclair about extending his contract.

Having previously been on the books of the Gas as a youth player, Sinclair returned to the club as a free agent in mid-October, having been released by Preston North End in the summer.

Since then, the 33-year-old has made a further seven appearances in all competitions for the League One club, scoring two goals in that time.

However, the contract Sinclair signed with the club was a short term one, only keeping him at the Memorial Stadium until January 2023.

Now though, it seems Bristol Rovers have begun work on extending the winger's stay with the club, beyond that point, judging by these latest comments from Barton.

Speaking about the possibility of Sinclair signing a new contract with the club, the Bristol Rovers boss was quoted by Bristol World as saying: “We’ve started discussions with him and his agent, so no doubt that will unfold in the next couple of weeks."

The Verdict

This does feel as though it will be a welcome, if brief, update on Sinclair's situation for Bristol Rovers fans.

The winger has made a positive impact since his return to the Memorial Stadium, providing some significant contributions to help the Gas claim some important wins.

It would therefore be a welcome boost to the club's prospects for the rest of the season, and potentially beyond, if they are able to secure a new contract for him.

Indeed, considering the profile and experience of Sinclair, this would arguably be something of a show of intent for Bristol Rovers, meaning you imagine they will want to get it done as soon as they can.
