Bristol City are not considering signing any free agents despite the recent injury issues that Dean Holden has been hit with.

Andi Weimann and Steven Sessegnon were both forced off in the 1-1 draw with Swansea City last time out and they will be assessed ahead of the midweek clash with Bournemouth and moving forward.

With the likes of Alfie Mawson, Liam Walsh, Joe Williams and Nathan Baker all out for another month or so, it has left the Robins short in certain areas.

However, even though Holden will be just about able to name a full squad for the Cherries game, Bristol Live have confirmed that the club are not yet looking at the free agent market.

Instead, they will turn to the U23s if needed for the busy period ahead and they will hope to have good news on those injured players in the coming weeks.

The update adds that the only way that stance may change is if the news concerning Mawson's knee injury is bad, although even in that instance the right player would need to be available.

The verdict

This seems like a sensible position from the club as it's easy to demand new signings when the squad looks weak but you need to think with the long-term in mind.

Holden has a good group at his disposal and they don't need to sign someone for the sake of it.

So, it's about getting through the next few weeks, when some of these injuries will clear up, and turning to the U23s in the meantime - with the development squad producing some talented individuals in the past.
