New Bristol City signing Filip Benkovic has said that the Championship is a "good league to play in" following his switch to Ashton Gate from Leicester City.

The 22-year-old joined the BS3 side on deadline day on a loan move until the end of the season, joining Nahki Wells and Marcus Henriksen as the new signings at the club.

He found himself down the pecking order at Leicester City, and joins the Robins to aid his development and show what he is capable of.

Benkovic could be in line to make his debut this Friday against Birmingham City in the Championship, and was unveiled by the club on Tuesday afternoon, where he spoke on why he joined the club.

The Croatian is fully aware of the competitive nature of the division, and said it would he a "challenge" for him going forward.

"I’ve never played in the Championship, it’s a different type of league," Benkovic said to the Bristol Post.

"I believe that I have many things to show and I have some experience from the Champions League and Europa League. I’ve never played in the Championship, it’s a different type of league."

His experience of European football comes from his time at Celtic and Dinamo Zagreb respectively. He spent last season on loan at the Scottish Champions.

The Croatian also commented on how the league is stylistically.

"Championship football is, big intensity, sometimes you can see surprises when bottom teams can beat the top six teams. There is nice football, I think the Championship is a good league to play in."

Bristol City will be confident in their new signing to deliver, and it is a plus that he is showing his confidence from the outset.

He is a aware of the competitive nature of the league, and that will mean it may take him a shorter time to adapt his game.

Benkovic has sixteen games to show what he is capable of, but it is likely that he will return to Leicester at the end of his loan spell.
