Bristol City today announced the signing of  29-year-old Spanish striker Rodri on a free transfer, after securing a contract agreement with the former Sevilla and FC Barcelona B player until January of next year, with an option to extend the deal to the end of the current season.

The Spaniard has been a free agent since leaving Spanish side Granada during the summer, for whom he scored five goals in 34 games across all competitions last season, in what was the striker's only season with El Graná.

After completing his medical and signing his contract, Rodri was quick to express his delight upon completing his transfer to the Robins, he told BCFC.co.uk:

“It’s my job to score goals and I will try my best for this club and this team and I want them to be in first place.

“My first impressions of the manager are that I think he is a good coach and a good person and that’s very important for me.

"I want to thank him for the opportunity to play in England again.”

Rodri of course last played in England for Sheffield Wednesday during the 2012/2013 campaign, which was a largely disappointing highlight of the Spaniard's career as he registered just one goal in 12 outings during his time at the Hillsborough based club.

The Verdict

Rodri's comments upon signing for the club will no doubt ring well with the Ashton Gate faithful, who will be hopeful that their new addition can make the same kind of impact that Benik Afobe made earlier this season.

With the Championship season now entering a potentially crucial stage, Lee Johnson will also have his fingers crossed after securing a deal for a player who has hardly been prolific throughout his career, with the 29-year-old target man having turned out for clubs in three different countries so far.

With just 52 goals to his name since his professional debut in the 2009/2010 season, the former 1860 Munich striker will be keen to prove any doubters wrong that have been quick to write him off already.

And he has good reason to be hopeful, with the likes of Niclas Eliasson and Kasey Palmer capable of putting chances on a plate, goals should be easier to come by for the striker than they were at lowly Granada last season.
