Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has claimed that he feels sorry for January signing Nahki Wells.

The Robins forward joined at the end of January on a permanent deal but has not had the best of starts to life at the at the club.

In their last five games, Johnson's side have lost four times and are now in danger of missing out on a top-six finish.

Wells has netted just once since arriving, which came in the 3-2 victory over Derby County. He will be hoping to find the net in City's next fixture when they take a tricky trip to the Den to play Millwall.

Johnson revealed that he felt sorry for Wells as the side had found life difficult since his arrival.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Johnson said: "I feel a bit sorry for Nahki because he's come into a promotion-chasing side, he's had a few chances, but bless him he's probably looking around going 'what's going on here?'"

The Verdict

This is a surprising one as it's not often you hear a coach make a statement like this. It's an interesting point from Johnson and it's nice that he is actually thinking about the player's feelings ahead of his future at the club.

Bristol City are still in with a chance of the play-offs but the current form that they're on it's not looking likely that they'll get into the top six.

It's going to be a tough ask now and Johnson will want to see some character from his squad in the final 12 matches of the season.

Wells needs some goals and if he can get a few over the next four or five games, he could be the spark that helps them make the play-offs.
