Bristol City have shared a training ground update on striker Benik Afobe, as the 27-year-old continues his rehabilitation from a ACL injury sustained at the beginning of the campaign.

Afobe was initially ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering the injury in September, but it has emerged in recent weeks that the forward has stepped up his recovery at the club's training ground.

Bristol City provided some insight into how Afobe has been progressing on their official Twitter account:

The video posted by the club shows the 27-year-old back in light training, focusing on readjustment to the playing surface as well as engaging in light ball work with the coaching staff.

It is a significant milestone in Afobe's recovery process, following on from his reintroduction to training two weeks ago.

It is hoped that Afobe can continue the upwards trajectory, and be in line to feature for the club in some capacity before the end of the season.

The Robins continue their push for the play-offs, as they sit in 7th, just one point off Preston North End in 6th.

With just nine games remaining in the Championship, a potential return to the side for Afobe could be a welcome boost, as it will provide added competition for Nakhi Wells, Famara Diedhiou and Andreas Weimann upfront.

The Verdict

It is great news for all concerned that Afobe is back out on the grass with a smile on his face, after an incredibly difficult six months which has seen him on the sidelines, and deal with personal tragedy.

Lee Johnson will be hoping that the 27-year-old does not suffer any notable setbacks in his recovery process.

Although Afobe is back in training, it still remains to be seen if he will be able to feature before the end of the campaign.
