Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has turned his attention to Charlton Athletic front-man Lyle Taylor, as per London News Online, as the Robins look to land some much needed fire-power before the transfer window closes.

Taylor, 29, has travelled widely throughout his career including spells at Millwall, Bournemouth, Falkirk, Sheffield United, Scunthorpe United and AFC Wimbledon, before moving to the Valley in June 2018, going on to score 28 goals in 55 appearances for the Addicks.

But would Taylor be a frequent starter if he moved to Ashton Gate?

Jordan Rushworth

“Bristol City have been in need of adding to their options up front after losing Stoke City loanee Benik Afobe through injury, after he had got off to a strong start and added some extra firepower in the final third for Lee Johnson’s side earlier in the campaign.

“Taylor could well be a very useful addition for the Robins to bring in before the end of the window, with the striker having the potential ability to come straight into their starting line-up and make a real difference during the rest of the campaign.

“The striker has adapted well to life in the Championship, hitting seven goals in just 14 appearances, which suggests he could be the sort of finisher that Bristol City need were they to bring him to the club from Charlton and keep him fully fit for the rest of the campaign.

“Signing a striker with the ability to offer a calm head in the final third and finish off chances that come their way, like Taylor could potentially offer could help the Robins find some more consistency in terms of their ability to win matches and could make the difference for their hopes of a top six finish.”

“I think it would be a very smart signing for Lee Johnson and he would definitely make regular starts for Bristol.

“Having fired Charlton to promotion last season, he has proven that he is more than capable of playing in the Championship, and even making the jump up to a side battling in and around the play-offs.

“The Robins were dealt a huge blow when Benik Afobe was ruled out for the season and they are still suffering from that, so Taylor would come in to fill that void.

“With Andreas Weimann and Famara Diedhiou both hitting nine league goals so far this season, they have been a strong partnership, but there is no doubting that a consistent flow of goals and a more suited focal point in attack is needed, which Taylor would provide.”

Ben Lang

"The Robins are definitely in need of at least one more striker before the window closes, and the fact Taylor has already proven his goalscoring ability at this level means he would surely make the starting line-up.

"It would be a real coup if the Ashton Gate outfit could land the striker ahead of the host of other Championship clubs in for him, and I would expect him to get into Lee Johnson's side ahead of Famara Diedhiou.

"There is the argument that Taylor may be struggling for fitness having already suffered two injuries this season, but it seems he is now coming out the other side of these setbacks and he will only go from strength to strength in the coming weeks.

"Bristol City look like they are in need of a boost ahead of their play-off bid following a patchy run of results, and I believe Taylor's arrival would be big enough to give the whole club a lift."
