Bristol City are targeting Ipswich Town star Adam Webster as a direct replacement for Aden Flint, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Wednesday 27th July, 08:14].
Flint is expected to depart shortly and join Middlesbrough as a medical is set up for him after the two clubs agreed a £7m fee.
The towering centre-half has been vitally important for the Robins over the last few years and his absence will leave a major void at the back.
But Lee Johnson is hoping to act quickly and snap up Webster as his replacement in a £2m deal, taking advantage of the fact he is entering the final year of his contract.
The 23-year-old joined Ipswich from Portsmouth two summers ago and he has impressed in his 46 Championship starts during an injury-ravaged time at Portman Road.
In turn in this merry-go-round, Ipswich are preparing a move for Shrewsbury Town centre-half Aristote Nsiala as a replacement for Webster if he leaves.
New Tractor Boys boss Paul Hurst worked with the 26-year-old at both Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury and now wants to sign him again for Ipswich.
The Verdict
Everyone seems to be getting a decent deal here.
Boro are securing a top Championship defender in Flint, who can fill Ben Gibson's boots when he leaves.
Bristol City are then securing a bargain for Webster if he can stay fit as he has the potential to become one of the best defenders in the division.
And Ipswich will get a proven League One defender who Hurst knows well and trusts.
