Burton Albion are reportedly set to agree a loan deal for Bristol City winger Jonny Smith, who has spent the first half of the season at Swindon Town.

The 23-year-old impressed early on at Swindon but has found opportunities harder to come by in recent months, with the club battling at the bottom of League One.

Smith has scored just twice and added one assist in his 20 appearances for the Wiltshire club, though his time there may be coming to an end.

It seems he is set to be the latest City loanee to be recalled this month, though he may not be at Ashton Gate for long.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Burton are set to agree a loan deal for Smith.

That would likely see him join the Brewers until the end of the season.

The winger has been at City since joining from the Wrexham academy in July 2016 but has never featured for the senior side.

Burton appear to be doing some shrewd late-window business, with reports recently indicating they'd signed Wolves midfielder Terry Taylor.

Who has done more of these 15 things out of Bristol City and Bristol Rovers?

The Verdict

This comes as something of a surprise because though Smith's chances have been reduced recently, he has still featured fairly often for Swindon this term.

It's likely to frustrate manager John Sheridan and the fans hugely as it will not only weaken their squad but strengthen that of a relegation rival.

The Ashton Gate faithful won't mind, however, as relations between the two fanbases remain frosty since some feisty clashes in League One in the 2014/15 campaign.
